Bridges to Belmont Grows Stronger With New Staff, Summer Academy

Following a successful pilot year, Belmont University announced the expansion of the “Bridges to Belmont” program with an additional 30 students for Fall 2014 and the appointment of a full-time director and staff. New Director Mary Clark (formerly assistant to the dean of diversity, program director in the Office of Multicultural Affairs and minority faculty fellow at Marshall University) oversees the program and is joined by program assistant Nadi Bishop (supplemental instruction, organizational support, tutor training and mentoring) and Robby Quarles (support specialist). Bridges to Belmont reflects a deliberate stride on the part of Belmont’s administration to enhance the cultural and ethnic diversity within the campus community while also continuing efforts to provide higher education to students in Davidson County. Bridges to Belmont students, many of whom are first-generation college students, each are given full four-year scholarships, academic support and mentors. The Bridges scholars’ education begins with the Summer Academy, during which students take courses, complete community service projects and attend a convocation and chapel program designed to introduce them into Belmont campus life.
